Botox injections consist of a natural, purified protein that relaxes the muscle upon injection by blocking nerve impulses. This does not affect the ability to use the muscle, but it reduces overactive muscle movement temporarily in that area. Once these overactive muscles have been relaxed the skin begins to smooth and appears significantly less lined. Botox remains the most effective method to treat areas such as crow’s feet, frown lines, smoker’s lines and “bunny lines” on the nose. Botox is also highly effective when used on the neck as anti ageing treatment. The effects of the treatment can last anything from 3 to 6 months, depending on the individual. Younger clientele are also making use of Botox treatments to prevent strong genetic facial lines, expression lines and other deep lines on the face. By having Botox injected at a younger age clients are able to delay and to a large extent prevent wrinkles from appearing.

  • Am I a candidate for Botox treatments?

If there are visible lines on your face when frowning or squinting, and especially if they remain slightly visible when your face relaxes again, then you are definitely a candidate for Botox treatments. If your family has strong genetic lines then you could always start preventative Botox to avoid developing the same inherited lines.

  • What is Botox used for?

Aesthetically Botox is known for treating fine lines, deeper genetic wrinkles and gummy smiles. Medically Botox is used to treat the following conditions:

  • Migraines and chronic headaches
  • Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)
  • Bruxism (teeth clenching and grinding)
  • Muscle spasms

It is possible to claim back from Medical Aid for some of the medical procedures. This is not submitted by Winelands Aesthetic and Medical, but Dr Huskisson will be happy to provide a motivational letter to any Medical Aid scheme.

  • How does Botox work?

Essentially, Botox treatments relax the muscles that have been injected in order to lessen the contractions of that specific muscle. This, however, does not mean that one ends up without any use of the muscle. Dr Huskisson’s artistic eye ensures subtly natural, but very impressive results.

  • How long can I expect to enjoy the results of Botox?

One can expect to enjoy the results of Botox for 4 months; thereafter one need only pop in for a top up. Winelands Aesthetic and Medical are more than happy to send a courtesy message to their clients to remind them when their approximate 4 month top up is approaching.

  • Are Botox treatments safe?

Botox has become the most commonly performed cosmetic procedure. Medically it has been used for over 20 years, and its aesthetic uses have been admired for the last 12 years. Side effects and reactions are incredibly rare, and because it is essentially a protein there is no chance of developing and allergy.

  • How long does a treatment take?

The treatment, as well as the initial assessment, takes between 10 to 15 minutes.

  • What must one do before and after a Botox treatment?

Sleep on your back the night that you receive treatment. Do not do any form of exercise for the next 24 hours. Avoid wearing any sunglasses, spectacles or headgear. Do not put make up on, take make up off or wash your face the night that you receive treatment. The reason for this is because Botox is a liquid and takes a few hours to settle correctly. Any stress on the injection sites- such as a spectacle rim- could cause the Botox to move into an undesirable area. To minimise chances of bruising, please avoid alcohol, pain-medication, vitamins, omega oils, anti-oxidants or blood thining medication at least a day before treatment. Not to worry, Dr Huskisson and his assistant are there to walk you through the entire process and will explain this all in full. They are simply precautionary measures to ensure that you get the very best results.

  • Is there an age restriction on who should receive Botox treatments?

No, within reason, there are no age restrictions. Young clients come to Dr Huskisson to receive preventative Botox treatments.

  • Can I receive a Botox treatment if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

It is unadvisable for a pregnant woman to receive treatment, but it is perfectly safe to do when breastfeeding.
